Solved: Is DistroKid Free? Is There A Free Trial?

By Matthew Vultaggio

November 23, 2023

When picking a music distributor, you want to make sure you are getting the lowest price for the value, so naturally, you will want to know if DistroKid is free or not and which plan is best for you.

DistroKid is not free and does not have a free trial available. The most common DistroKid plan is priced at $22.99 USD per year with a variety of different plans available.

Each DistroKid plan is priced annually and includes unlimited song and album uploads. To get the cheapest possible price, you can click here to save 7% on your first annual plan with DistroKid.

In addition to the annual fee, DistroKid has some extra (and completely optional) paid extras and add-ons that are available (more on this later).

Is There A DistroKid Free Trial?

There is no free trial available for DistroKid. The best way to get the absolute cheapest possible price is by clicking here to save 7% on your first annual plan with DistroKid.

It is worth noting that DistroKid did offer some kind of free trial in the past.

However, in a tweet uncovered from June 2014, it looks like DistroKid stopped offer free trials because people were using the free trial to upload copyright-infringing material:

While on the topic of copyright, if you’d like to learn more about music copyright check out my article Does DistroKid Copyright Your Music For You? for more on this. 🙂

Is There A Free Alternative To DistroKid?

There is a service that I have used before called RouteNote.com that can actually allow you to upload music to Spotify for free (with a catch).

Definitely check them out if you find that spending $19.99 for unlimited song releases is too much for you at this time.

No judgment, my friend! 🙂

However, I did mention that there is a catch…

Unlike DistroKid, RouteNote actually takes a 15% cut of any song royalties that your song may receive.

So.. what is wrong with that?

What that means is if any of your songs take off and start actually bringing in some sweet streaming royalties and cash, RouteNote will always be stripping you away of your hard-earned dollars.

But with all of that said, if you are just getting started and want to dip your toes into the water of releasing music on Spotify, this really can be a fantastic way to get started.

Finally, I should mention again that if the cost of DistroKid is too high for you right now, you can actually follow this link to save 7% on your first year.

Sure, it is not a crazy amount of savings, but hopefully, it can help you out, my friend. 🙂

Any of the paid services or tools listed here are most likely affiliate links, so if you do decide to use any of them, I’ll earn a small commission. 🤗

But in all honesty, these are the exact tools that I personally use, love, and recommend to anyone – including my own friends and family.
