If you’re looking to use either the free or paid version of Songwhip to create music links for promoting your music and growing your Spotify streams, I’ve reviewed both and written down everything you need to know right here.
Songwhip’s free music links are only recommended for sharing directly and through social media. Although the price to upgrade is not too high, limited customization options and analytics make it hard to call even paid Songwhip music links the best choice.
The main benefit of the free Songwhip music links is how easily and quickly they can be created (you don’t even need to create an account!).
However, although you can integrate advertising pixels on Songwhip’s $6 per month ‘Indie’ plan, the ability to use custom domains is only available on their $12 per month ‘Business’ plan.
So – for this review, I will be focusing on their free option as well as their Business plan option to paint the best possible picture of whether Songwhip is worth it or not.
To learn more about Songwhip, if it is worth it, and what other alternatives there are, simply keep on reading, my friend. 🙂
Songwhip: The Tl;dr Review
Songwhip allows anyone to create a music link by typing in an artist or song name into their search box.
What’s really cool about Songwhip is the fact that a Songwhip account is not even needed to do this, making it completely free to use for anyone.

With that said, I would only really recommend using free Songwhip music links as a tool for creating links that you can share around or add to your social media profiles.
This is due to the fact that to be able to properly run Spotify conversion ads with Songwhip you will need to pay $12 per month for their ‘Business’ plan.
Although Songwhip does have other plans available, the Business plan is the only plan that lets you both add advertising pixels and use a custom domain (which are 2 requirements for running Spotify conversion ads).
Let’s take a look at what you get with the free Songwhip music links more closely before diving into what you get when paying for Songwhip to decide if it is worth it or not.
Are Free Songwhip Music Links Worth It?
Songwhip music links that you can create for free are worth it for anyone looking to easily and quickly create a link for sharing some music around.
However, I ultimately do not recommend using free Songwhip music links because you can not properly run Spotify conversion ads with them.
Unless you plan on using the free Songwhip links just for sharing or pasting into social media profiles, you will need to upgrade in order to get the most out of these links with Spotify conversion ads.
Here is a breakdown of whether or not free Songwhip links have the necessary features that artists need to succeed with music links:
Pricing | Freemium |
Spotify Conversion Ads | No |
Unlimited Links | Yes |
Advertising Pixel | No |
Custom Domain Verification | No |
Link Customization Options | None |
As you can see, the main benefit of the free Songwhip music links is how easily and quickly they can be created.
Unfortunately, they just don’t provide enough features with their free offering for Songwhip if you want to take things to the next level with Facebook ads for musicians.

Is Paying For Songwhip Worth It?
Although you can integrate advertising pixels on Songwhip’s $6 per month ‘Indie’ plan, the ability to use custom domains is only available on their $12 per month ‘Business’ plan.
When paying for Songwhip’s Business plan, Songwhip’s music links are a solid choice for any artist looking to grow their streams with ads and social sharing.
Although the $12 price tag is reasonable, limited customization options and analytics make it hard to call Songwhip the best choice.
Getting Songwhip properly set up for Spotify conversion ads by integrating the Facebook Pixel and setting a custom domain seems easy enough.
However, the customization options are quite limited with Songwhip music links.
There are really no templates or stylistic changes that can be done, although you can remove all streaming links so that your music link is focused on Spotify conversions.

When it comes to analytics, Songwhip provides some basics with a weird catch of only showing data for the last 14 days:

At the end of the day, although the $12 per month price tag is still quite reasonable, I find it hard to recommend Songwhip as my #1 music link option due to the limited customization options and provided analytics.

The Best Music Link Tools To Get More Streams
Although choosing the right music link service ultimately comes down to your budget, how you want your music links to look, and what extra features you might be interested in…
It’s absolutely critical that the music link that you use have the basic features needed to be able to effectively run Spotify conversion ads.
Just about any music link tool will work if you only want to use your music links to be used as “link in bio” pages or to be dropped in your social media profiles.
If you need help picking the right music link tool for you, check out this guide I made for you called: Music Links: The Best Smart Link Tools To Promote Your Music.
After researching most of the popular options out on the market today, I’ve dialed in your best choice if you are looking for premium music links or want to save a bit with the best budget option.
…and if you are looking for a music link tool that can get the job done for free, check out this guide I made called: Free Music Links: Your Guide To Free Smart Links & URLs For Music.
In that guide, I let you know the only free music link tool that you should be looking at if you want to properly run Spotify conversion ads and do reviews on the “free” offerings that most other music link companies have out there.
Because although a lot of music link tools have “free” versions, the truth is that they limit the features you get with the free version in hopes that you will fork up some of your hard-earned cash to unlock the features you need.
…So What Music Link Tool Should You Use?
There are an endless amount of music link tools and website builders out there, that can allow you to start building music landing pages.
The truth is that you are free to use any tool that meets the conversion-focused requirements I mentioned in this article (and that you can follow along with in this free cheat sheet).
With that said…
Although it is a bit more advanced, I personally use and recommend hosting your own WordPress website and using a premium drag-and-drop plugin.
This combo allows you to create unlimited links and set up your links properly without having to upgrade or connect to another service.
It also allows you to future proof your web presence later since you can add an online shop, membership program, or whatever the next trend in online music marketing is after music links.
I’ve also created a free course (that I may have linked to like 100 times now hehe) that teaches you how to get set up with this combo and even includes the music and “link in bio” templates that I am currently using.
That free course will also go into the strategy of how to music links to grow your Spotify streams and how to optimize your music links so that they get you the most amount of streams possible.
Alternatively, if you already have a solution for a website or music links already just make sure your current solution meets these requirements first:
- You can install advertising pixels like the Facebook Pixel
- You have access to a domain (www.you.com) and its DNS so you can verify your website domain to Facebook
- You can create unlimited web pages and music links
- You can easily customize and modify your music links
The free course that I mentioned can also help you pick and optimize your music links regardless of which one you are using. 🙂
