How To Get DistroKid For THE Lowest Price (Discount & Deals)

By Matthew Vultaggio

November 23, 2023

If you want to get a DistroKid discount so that you can upload your music to Spotify, Apple Music, and more for as cheap as possible, you are in the right place.

To get started with DistroKid for the lowest price possible, the best discount that they offer is 7% off your first year: to get maximum savings on DistroKid click here.

From my personal experience using and signing up for DistroKid, I’ve found that they don’t have any other traditional discount codes, coupon codes, or sales available…

Instead, they have “VIP Links” that automatically apply a 7% discount for you.

These DistroKid VIP Links make sure that your first-year subscription is locked in at a discounted price so you don’t have to worry about applying any kind of coupon code or discount code when registering with DistroKid.

For a step-by-step guide on how to get your DistroKid discount, more about DistroKid’s pricing, and how to choose the best plan, simply read on, my friend. 🙂

How To Claim Your DistroKid Discount

Here is a step-by-step process of how to make sure you get your discounted 7% off with DistroKid:

  1. Click the DistroKid discount link.
  2. Make sure that the website shows that you’ve clicked on a “VIP Link”:

3. Scroll down and sign up:

Here are some of my favorite benefits of using DistroKid and why I trust them to be my music distributor:

  • Unlimited song uploads (you don’t have to pay per song or album!)
  • You keep 100% of your Spotify royalties, Apple Music royalties, etc
  • Get paid monthly
  • Get a Spotify verified checkmark and access to the Spotify For Artists dashboard
  • Upgrade your normal YouTube channel to a YouTube Official Artist Channel

Out of all of these benefits, by far the best is the fact that you get unlimited song uploads. Releasing music frequently using DistroKid is a key reason how I’ve gotten my music on 7+ Spotify editorial playlists and got over 400,000 streams.

Is There A DistroKid Free Trial?

DistroKid does not offer a free trial. The best way to get the absolute cheapest possible price is by clicking here to save 7% on your first annual plan with DistroKid.

With that said, it is interesting to note that DistroKid actually did offer some kind of free trial in the past.

I found a tweet from June 2014, that shows DistroKid used to offer a free trial but stopped when they found out that people were taking advantage of the free trial to upload copyright-infringing material:

So, at the time of writing this, the best discount that DistroKid offers is 7% off your first year with DistroKid: to save 7% off with DistroKid click here.

How To Choose The Right DistroKid Plan

DistroKid currently offers 3 main plans: the Musician, Musician Plus, and Ultimate plans.

Musician$19.99 USDUnlimited1No
Musician Plus$35.99 USDUnlimited2Customizable
Ultimate$79.99 USDUnlimited5Customizable
A chart breaking down DistroKid’s plans for artists and labels.

In my humble opinion, the only two main plans you will want to consider are DistroKid’s Musician and Musician Plus plans.

For a more detailed comparison of the two, check out my article: DistroKid Musician vs Musicians Plus.

Personally, I use the DistroKid Musicians Plus plan to release music as Best Friends Club.

Out of all of the extra features that you get with the ‘Plus’ plan, I honestly think the ability to set a specific release date and time is critically important to your music release strategy and is the main reason I would recommend the upgrade to the Musician Plus plan.

With that said…

Choose a DistroKid Ultimate plan if:

You may want to consider the Ultimate plan if you are a label or if you release music under a lot of different artist names or simply want to help out other artists or friends by releasing their tunes for ’em.

Choose the basic DistroKid Musician plan if:

The basic Musician plan may be the right fit for you if you don’t need to set release dates for your releases and/or if you just want to save a bit of cash.

And don’t forget!

You can always start with this plan to get started, feel things out, and then upgrade later down the line. 🙂

Are There Any Hidden Fees With DistroKid?

DistroKid does not have any hidden fees. However, what you should know is that you may have standard banking fees, taxes, and PayPal transfer fees to pay when you withdraw your sweet, sweet Spotify money from DistroKid.

They also have “Album Extras” which you can add on when submitting music but I personally don’t bother with these (and I don’t think you should either).

Here is a breakdown of some of the extra stuff that DistroKid offers on a release-by-release basis if you would like to know:

  • Shazam & iPhone Siri: people can Shazam or Siri your music
  • Store Maximizer: your music automatically gets added to new stores as DistroKid makes them available
  • YouTube Money: DistroKid will hunt down YouTube videos that use your music and collect ad money from them
  • Leave a Legacy: your tunes will stay up on all stores if you don’t pay the DistroKid subscription
  • Cover Song Licensing: they handle all the licensing and legal stuff so that you can safely and legally upload a cover song

Again, I personally don’t bother with any of them when I am releasing my own music, and don’t think you need to either.

With that said, it can be useful to know all of the extra tools and services that DistroKid makes available to you.

Simply take a look at my article on DistroKid pricing if you need a more detailed look into the costs of each of the plans. 🙂

Will DistroKid Take A Percentage Of My Earnings?

DistroKid takes 0% percentage of your earnings and you keep the remaining 100% of your earnings from your music’s streams and sales.

However, you should be aware of two things:

  1. There may be standard bank fees, taxes, and/or PayPal transfer fees that you may need to pay when you withdraw your money from DistroKid.
  2. Any stores that take a cut of any sales (like iTunes), will still take their cut.

In both of those situations, it is not DistroKid that is taking anything from you and they are pretty standard things.

For a full breakdown of this, including how DistroKid more specifically makes money, check out my article: Does DistroKid Take A Percentage?

But, wait! There is one catch! ?

The only time that DistroKid will take a percentage of anything is if you choose to opt into their optional “YouTube Money” feature.

As mentioned earlier in this article, YouTube Money is an extra and completely optional feature that DistroKid offers to find and collect revenue from any video on YouTube that is using your music.

So, if you would like to use this optional feature, DistroKid will only take 20% of the revenue from the YouTube videos they find that are using your music.

They still will not take a percentage of any of your earnings from Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, etc, etc.

For a deeper look into DistroKid’s YouTube Money feature and how you can use DistroKid to upload your music to YouTube, check out my article: Does DistroKid Upload To YouTube? for more. 🙂

DistroKid Sign Up Discount

To get a discount when you sign up with DistroKid, use this link: https://distrokid.com/vip/seven/1246102

DistroKid uses “VIP Links” (like the one above) to automatically apply a 7% discount for you. They do not have any other discount codes, coupon codes, or sales available.

Sure, it is not a crazy discount but hopefully, it helps you out a bit, my friend. 🙂

DistroKid Alternatives: Are There Any Better Deals?

After having researched a bunch of other music distributors, DistroKid really does seem to have one of the best (if not the best) offer out there.

Especially, when compared to the older distribution company that has been around for a while.

There is definitely a good reason that DistroKid is #1 in Spotify’s list of preferred music distributors.

With that said, although my top suggestion for a music distributor is definitely DistroKid, I’ve gone ahead and compared DK to other popular services if you’d like to do some research or if you are simply just curious.

Popular alternatives to a music distribution service like DistroKid include TuneCore, CdBaby, Ditto, and Amuse.
